In October and November, Liège Creative is presenting a very interesting program perfectly in line with Valbowal's objectives. Our co-leader, Tom de Mil, will be taking part in one of these conferences, which you can discover below:
Construction waste as a new resource for the building industry
The building sector must embark on an eco-responsible transition in the face of the predicted increase in resource consumption and waste by 2050. This trend opens the way to the valorization of waste as a new raw material.
The Greenwin - RECOB² project illustrates this dynamic. It is developing an innovative dry screed panel made from recycled construction waste. This material aims to combine technical performance, low environmental impact and controlled cost. Designed to be reversible, it can be reused and then recycled to produce new panels, making its production part of a circular logic.
The associated conference will present this holistic eco-design approach, which takes into account the entire life cycle, from waste to finished material and back. It will also highlight the importance of interdisciplinary collaborations between researchers, industrialists and public players to bring these still under-exploited materials into widespread use.

When the built environment heals: a dialogue between architecture, neuroscience and mental health
How does our built environment influence our mental health, our perception of the world and our day-to-day behavior?
What if our living spaces were more than just decorations... but real co-authors of our emotions, our attention and our well-being?
This meeting-conference will bring together three perspectives from architecture, neuroscience and psychiatry to explore how light, volumes, materials, flows and ambiences profoundly modify our relationship with the world, our stress, our concentration, our recovery... but also our social interactions and our sense of security.
Through concrete examples and scientific data, this meeting invites us to rethink the act of designing spaces as an act of care, bonding and psychic impact for the well-being of all and sundry.

Timber construction: how to combine innovation and sustainability
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EMBUILD AND AS PART OF CLIMATE FORTNIGHT
Faced with the imperatives of climate change and the need for transition in the building sector, wood construction is emerging as a promising alternative. But how can we ensure that this sector is truly sustainable, from resource to implementation? And how can we innovate without compromising the principles of circularity, sobriety and resilience?
This conference will explore the contemporary issues surrounding wood construction, through the eyes of professionals involved in the research, design and implementation of innovative projects. Speakers will share their experiences of responsible building practices, the choice of locally sourced materials, and strategies foroptimizing environmental performance.
Through concrete examples and open-ended questioning, the meeting aims to shed light on the levers of action for ambitious, realistic and locally-rooted timber construction. An invitation to think collectively about the conditions for a more sustainable built future.

Using digital mapping of old building materials to rehabilitate differently
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EMBUILD
Wallonia, like many other European regions, is facing a major challenge: rehabilitating its old housing stock, which is often not very energy-efficient, to meet the climate and circular objectives set for 2050. Made up largely of single-family homes built before 1914, these buildings generate a significant amount of waste during renovation work.
How can we gain a better understanding of the materials that make up this heritage and encourage their reuse?
How can we transform this waste into resources?
These are the questions addressed by the URMIBALI research project, which aims to develop a rapid and reliable method for inventorying the materials present in Liège's old residential buildings. By combining architectural typology, historical analysis and in situ digital documentation on six representative buildings, URMIBALI proposes a bottom-up, transdisciplinary approach to rethinking rehabilitation.
