Murielle Schmitz is a young architect who graduated from the University of Liège in 2023 with a thesis entitled " Can a version of the Thoma system be implemented in Wallonia? When the issue of resilience in Walloon forests is linked to the challenge of circular construction." Her thesis received an excellent grade of 18/20.

Murielle completed two years of internships before deciding to return to university with the aim of gaining more in-depth training in wood materials and wood construction. Her integration into the "Acte" laboratory of Sophie Trachte, professor at the Faculty of Architecture and leader of Valbowal, as well as her close collaboration with professor and co-leader of the same IIS Tom De Mil, will enable her to develop her research question while supporting Valbowal's activities.
Within the team, she will be responsible for reporting on the mission to Vorarlberg, detailing all the projects visited and interviewing both the companies and stakeholders visited on site in April 2025 and the participants. One of her added values is her mastery of the language of Goethe, an asset she has put to good use as a translator during the mission.
Welcome Murielle...
